No. 196
Birth record of Joan Joseph Theisen from Niederadenau
Today, on the 22nd day of the month of March 1879 [comment by Gary: The researcher who sent this document to Gary on Mon 7/15/2024 7:58 AM, Simon Schmitz at the State Main Archives Koblenz stated in his email: “(1) born 1815 Niederadenau Order 655,002 VK No. 284 Birth, marriage and death register of the mayor's office of Adenau 1815.” He obviously had the benefit of seeing the record in context of the book it came from], came to me, mayor of the parish of Adenau, officer of the civil registry of the parish Niederadenau, Adenau, Rhein and Mosel districts:
Joan Michel Theisen, farmer, 22 years of age, residing in Niederadenau, who declared to me that this afternoon, his wife Maria Catharina Müller gave birth to a child of male sex. The child was given the name Joan Joseph.
The above report and the presentation of the child happened in the presence of the witnesses Joan Joseph Bündgen, farmer, 30 years of age, and Peter Joseph Bauer [somewhat unsure of “Peter”], farmer, 43 years of age, both from Leimbach. The witnesses signed this report with me after it had been read aloud.
Baptism 23 Mar 1815 Niederadenau, Dümpelfeld, Adenau, Ahrweiler, Rheinland-Pfalz, Prussia
[18, 20] - Godparents:Godparents are: Joannes Josephus (Johann Joseph) Müller from Kalter-Reiferscheidt, and Anna Maria Hermes from Gilgenbach.
Note: St. Magdalena Catholic Chapel is very small and not always in use. When we visited in 2024, the building was not opened so we could only view from the outside.
FamilySearch record (doesn't show image) says baptism and marriage took place in Dümpelfeld (about 1 mile down the road), but this is not correct per Johann Joseph's birth and baptism record.
Gender Male Death 24 Mar 1892 Town of Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin, United States
[21, 22, 23, 24, 25] - Death mentioned in brother Mathias Theisen's probate record, page 26 of compiled document in order, although, the date is incorrect by 3 days.
Burial 26 Mar 1892 St. Killians cemetery, New Franken, Brown County, Wisconsin, USA

Notes - Joseph Theisen was a landowner in the territory of Wisconsin, one year prior to statehood.
NOTES: Went by Joseph Theisen on the marriage license for Michael & Minnie. Also named Joseph on his death certificate. Additional names found on other genealogy websites: Joannes Josephus, Johann Joseph, Joseph, Jos, Joannes Josephus.
Is this him in the 1850 Census? https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-10126-5158179/joseph-tyson-in-1850-united-states-federal-census#fullscreen Several things questionable with it, but is interesting for several reasons. Biggest issue is first born son John appears missing.

No 6
parish of Niederadenau, county of Adenau, district of Koblenz
In the year 1849, on the 8th of the month of March, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, came to me, Ignatz von Mewers, mayor of the parish of Adenau and officer of the civil registry:
Johann Joseph Theisen, 33 years of age, born in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz, a farmer, residing in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz, of-age son of Johann Michel Theisen, farmer, residing in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz, and Maria Catharina Müller, without profession, residing in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz.
And Margaretha Klein, 23 years of age, born in Barweiler, district of Koblenz, without profession, residing in Barweiler, district of Koblenz, of-age daughter of Johann Peter Klein who had been a farmer when alive, residing in Barweiler, district of Koblenz, and Anna Maria Schüttler who had been a farmer’s wife when alive, residing in Barweiler, district of Koblenz.
The parents of the groom are present during the wedding here and give their consent.
The bride and the groom asked me to make their intended marriage legal. Since the required public announcements of this intended marriage were made at the main gate of the parish house in Adenau and Antweiler, - the first on February 25 and the second on March 4 of this current year, each time during the noon hour - and since no objections to the marriage were received, I then proceeded to read the following documents:
1. The birth record of the groom, born March 22, 1815 according to the birth register No. 153 from here.
2. The birth record of the bride, born in Barweiler on March 6, 1825 according to the presented birth record No. 38.
3. The death record of the bride’s father who died on January 18, 1836 in Barweiler according to the presented death record No. 5.
4. The death record of the bride’s mother who died on June 15, 1846 in Barweiler according to the presented death record No. 20.
5. The death record of the bride’s grandfather on the father’s side, Anton Klein, who died on December 2, 1795.
6. The death record of the bride’s grandfather on the mother’s side, Johann Schüttler, who died in Jammelshofen on the 23rd of the month of Thermidor in the 10th year of the French Republic [August 11, 1802] according to the presented death record No. 116.
7. The death record of the bride’s grandmother on the father’s side, Christina Pauli, who died in Barweiler on December 7, 1808.
8. The death record of the bride’s grandmother on the mother’s side, Anna Maria Schomisch [could be Schonusch], who died in Jammelshofen on July 25, 1829, according to the presented death record No. 55.
9. the posted banns.
Furthermore, I read the 6th chapter of the Civil Code and then proceeded to ask the groom and the bride if they are willing to enter int marriage with each other. After both answered this question in the affirmative, I then declared that Johann Joseph Theisen and Margaretha Klein are now married to each other.
I then signed this document in the presence of the witnesses:
Johann Joseph Müller, 59 years of age, farmer, residing in Niederadenau, who is an uncle [in the strictest sense this should be a brother of the mother, but sometimes it I used generally for any uncles] of the couple;
Johann Joseph Drus, 53 years of age, innkeeper, residing in Leimbach, who is an acquaintance of the couple;
Gerhard Friederich, 23 years of age, tanner, residing in Adenau, who is an acquaintance of the couple;
Hubert Müller, 44 years of age, farmer, residing in Kaltenborn, who is an acquaintance of the couple;
and the others present, with the exception of the mother of the groom who declared to not know how to write.
