Translation of the record by Wilma Hofmann, whgermantranslation@gmail.com:
No 6
parish of Niederadenau, county of Adenau, district of Koblenz
In the year 1849, on the 8th of the month of March, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, came to me, Ignatz von Mewers, mayor of the parish of Adenau and officer of the civil registry:
Johann Joseph Theisen, 33 years of age, born in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz, a farmer, residing in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz, of-age son of Johann Michel Theisen, farmer, residing in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz, and Maria Catharina Müller, without profession, residing in Niederadenau, district of Koblenz.
And Margaretha Klein, 23 years of age, born in Barweiler, district of Koblenz, without profession, residing in Barweiler, district of Koblenz, of-age daughter of Johann Peter Klein who had been a farmer when alive, residing in Barweiler, district of Koblenz, and Anna Maria Schüttler who had been a farmer’s wife when alive, residing in Barweiler, district of Koblenz.
The parents of the groom are present during the wedding here and give their consent.
The bride and the groom asked me to make their intended marriage legal. Since the required public announcements of this intended marriage were made at the main gate of the parish house in Adenau and Antweiler, - the first on February 25 and the second on March 4 of this current year, each time during the noon hour - and since no objections to the marriage were received, I then proceeded to read the following documents:
1. The birth record of the groom, born March 22, 1815 according to the birth register No. 153 from here.
2. The birth record of the bride, born in Barweiler on March 6, 1825 according to the presented birth record No. 38.
3. The death record of the bride’s father who died on January 18, 1836 in Barweiler according to the presented death record No. 5.
4. The death record of the bride’s mother who died on June 15, 1846 in Barweiler according to the presented death record No. 20.
5. The death record of the bride’s grandfather on the father’s side, Anton Klein, who died on December 2, 1795.
6. The death record of the bride’s grandfather on the mother’s side, Johann Schüttler, who died in Jammelshofen on the 23rd of the month of Thermidor in the 10th year of the French Republic [August 11, 1802] according to the presented death record No. 116.
7. The death record of the bride’s grandmother on the father’s side, Christina Pauli, who died in Barweiler on December 7, 1808.
8. The death record of the bride’s grandmother on the mother’s side, Anna Maria Schomisch [could be Schonusch], who died in Jammelshofen on July 25, 1829, according to the presented death record No. 55.
9. the posted banns.
Furthermore, I read the 6th chapter of the Civil Code and then proceeded to ask the groom and the bride if they are willing to enter int marriage with each other. After both answered this question in the affirmative, I then declared that Johann Joseph Theisen and Margaretha Klein are now married to each other.
I then signed this document in the presence of the witnesses:
Johann Joseph Müller, 59 years of age, farmer, residing in Niederadenau, who is an uncle [in the strictest sense this should be a brother of the mother, but sometimes it I used generally for any uncles] of the couple;
Johann Joseph Drus, 53 years of age, innkeeper, residing in Leimbach, who is an acquaintance of the couple;
Gerhard Friederich, 23 years of age, tanner, residing in Adenau, who is an acquaintance of the couple;
Hubert Müller, 44 years of age, farmer, residing in Kaltenborn, who is an acquaintance of the couple;
and the others present, with the exception of the mother of the groom who declared to not know how to write.
